How it differs
The Difference Between PRP & PRF
The main difference between these treatments is the blood collection process before the procedure.
- PRP involves spinning your blood at high speed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma layer completely.
- In contrast, PRF spins the blood at a lower speed, retaining some white blood cells, stem cells, and fibrin in the platelet layer. This gentle spin process results in fewer cell damages and a higher concentration of healing platelets.
- PRF contains around 10 times the platelet concentration found in the body, while PRP contains approximately 2-5 times.
Another significant difference is the use of anticoagulants:
- PRP mixes with anticoagulants to prevent blood clotting during injection, whereas PRF does not include anticoagulants.
- This absence allows the formation of a spongy fibrin matrix in PRF, triggering a slow release of growth factors from platelets.
- PRP releases growth factors over a few hours, while PRF extends this release for up to a week.
